Lloyds TSB Card Expiry

Not sure if this is an un-usual thing to happen or not, but could do with some advice.

I have placed a pre-order that will be released late Ocotober 2012. They took a test payment to check my debit card was valid and all seems well. They will take actual payment upon shipping my order. But my current debit card is due to expire in June 2012 and I am worried that it is going to mess the order up by them not being able to debit my bank account.

I called Llloyds TSB who advised me they will still be able to take payment from my old expired card in October even after it expires in June.

Is this correct and has anyone had this happen to them?

Best thing to do will be to wait until the charge is due to be debited to your card, presumably in Ocotober, and then provide them with the details of your current debit card at that time.

There is no reason that I can imagine that they need this info now nor can I really imagine why they took a test payment to see that all was well almost 8 months before anything is due to be debited to the card. I hope they refunded this test payment.

They may or may not be able to take the money using the expired card's details but if they are a reputable company they won't. The most likely result of any such attempt wil be a decline.

Yes they can as you authorised the payment and they have to honour it in the same way they would with a CPA.

If you say so. But it's not a CPA is it? And an authorisation does'nt last 8 months either. I have never heard of a person providing credit card details for something to be charged in 8 months time or of a bank agreeing to honour a charge which may or may not be debited to an expired card many many months in the future. What if OP loses card, closes account, goes overdrawn/overlimit etc etc.

I buy loads of things on pre-orders,if my credit card is expired they will not send the item. They will however phone me to get my new card details but I prefer to phone them first when my new card comes in.
I have a deep burning indifference

No it's not but it's dealt with in a similar way. I've done pre-orders that have been accepted after the expiry date on the card with Lloyds TSB in the past and they have honoured the payment.

Also the OP has had confirmation from the horses mouth, Lloyds see what I did there :-), that it will be accepted. Might not be the case if the card is lost or stolen in the mean time though and all that will happen is they will request new details at the time when the company tell you its been declined.
