It might be a tourist thing with public money behind it but there are still private individuals and you can see it with some of the blatant rip offs going on. I might be tempted not to ever go just for that reason.Always overestimating...0

Looking on Trip Advisor, it's ironic that most (but not all, I admit) of the more negative reviews come from users from Northern Ireland. The majority of those from "overseas" seem pretty positive...0

I think that's because it's "our" £100 million they used to build the thing.
Not to mention the fact the £13.50 per person may mean more to the local who already paid for the building that it would to an American tourist.
Interestingly lots of Asian countries and India charge a local rate for tourist attractions and foreigner rate.
This building is a great deal for the developer, not so much for the locals.0 -
isnt it great that "Norn Iron" can cash in on the Titanic? if we had had the foresight to build more crappy boats at the time, we could have had more visitors centre. No strategic thinking in 19120

It actually was a very good boat.
Also H&W were flat out building boats at the time, so its not like they werent doing their best!!0 -
I was there today - queues fairly bad, seems that ground floor layout wasn't designed to cope with the volume of visitors on fully booked days. No one knew where to queue, different queues for different times, staff standing about aimlessly when they should have been proactive in organising and making sure people were in the right places. 11.00am tour was 20 minutes late in starting.
Nevertheless, was quite impressed with the experience overall, you are under no time pressure so can take as much or as little time as you want, took us about 2 hours to fully complete.
One thing that irritated me was, I didn't bring a camera as the website says "Photography and recording is strictly prohibited within the galleries." The experience was marred by dozens of people videoing and using flash to take photographs. On several occasions I was nearly blinded turning round to look at something and a flash would go off right in front of my eyes. They need to clamp down on this.
Go and see it, you will be impressed.0 -
I got some info on this as a wedding venue... £23 corkage for a bottle of champagne! Seriously, you pay your taxes, your taxes build a superb facility and then they grab you by the nuts when you try to use it! Scandalous.Always overestimating...0

Don't know for sure but I would say the bars and catering have been franchised so they are the ones setting the prices.
EDIT just as suspected! http://www.fitzerscatering.ie/venues/titanic-belfast.htmlDave0 -
I visited the Exhibition this afternoon for the 2.40pm slot, and whilst it was very busy(only to be expected as this was the anniversary of the actual sinking) I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Queues were a little long and yes we were slightly late for our slot, but as has been stated you can take as long or short a time as you want to explore all the galleries. The technology is amazing and the amount of information displayed is endless. I say well done Titanic Belfast. This is one project we should all be proud of. I also found any staff with whom I came into contact very polite and helpful.
On the issue of photography, most people I saw were using cameras etc. I have to admit to doing so myself. I was totally unaware that this was supposed to be prohibited. I have not visited the website. I had a query which I raised with the staff at the Help Desk to the left of the Ticket Sales. I had my camera clearly visible when speaking to the staff member, and was never informed that I should not be using it. Also staff are all around the galleries and at no time was I approached about using my camera. I did actually wonder about cameras, but I saw absolutely no signs stating that cameras were not to be used so naturally I had no qualms. Had I been aware I would not have done so. If this is prohibited, I would suggest they need to put up very prominent signs stating this.
As far as I am concerned this was 2 hours+ of time well spent.0 -
Am just bumping this thread to find out if anyone knows whether the 'staircase sundays' are still ongoing? Or if there is a way to see the staircase if you are not at an event?
Would really like to see it. Thanks in advance!0
