Harveys Price Guarantee

Just thought I would post this to see if anyone else had been having the same problem.

Me and my partner purchased a leather sofa from Harveys furniture store in Bournemouth and were told that the price was guaranteed not to reduce further and if it did we would receive a cheque through the post for the difference.

Upon checking just before delivery date was due we found that our sofa had actually lowered in price by £120 so we phoned the sales agent who sold us the sofa and he told us that the cheque would be with us around 2 weeks after the sofa was delivered. 3 weeks later we still had not received it so i rang the office to ask where it was where a lady answered and said we had missed the cheque run for that week and would be with us next week. We waited again and still nothing so rang again and it turns out they had our old address and said it had been sent to our old address but they would sort it out.

Since then my partner received a phonecall to say that actually we would not be recieving a cheque ourselves as legistlation had nopw changed and in fact it would now be paid direct to the finance company who would not change our rates because of the lower price but reduce the amount owed by £120. Now this would not be a problem usually but we were relying on this money coming to us as promised and in essence have been missold a product and to be honest would rather have the cashback so that i know it has been repaid. If paid to the finance company it could be that by the end of the finance term which is 5 years they could still charge us the full amount and i would not really know whether the price was lowered or not.

I've seen a lot of people on here having problems with Harvey's and would really appreciate some advice on how and if i could take this further. There is nothing in the terms and conditions to state payment would go to finance company and seems strange that 3 people have said it was being sent to us and then to receive this phonecall stating that it is not coming to us. Also on asking when the legistlation changed they were very cagey about dates.

Thanks

If you've taken finance you haven't actually paid for the sofa yet so I don't quite understand why you would get the cheque, I would assume it should go to the finance company.

If you are not sure about them offsetting the cheque against what you owe maybe you should call them

I understand that but we were told by Harvey's representatives that we would receive this cheque regardless of paying by finance on 3 separate occasions. We paid a deposit of £133 so technically all they would be doing is refunding some of the deposit. We have no intention of getting rid of the sofa as we absolutely love it and so will be continuing the full length of the finance agreement so the finance company will get their payment still and even if we did decide we wanted to cancel we're tied in by the contract so would be impossible anyway.

So you paid a deposit of £133 and expect Harveys to give you a refund of £120 - leaving you only paying a £13 deposit for your sofa!!

You were happy to pay the price quoted you got the finance and am sure you were happy with the deal offered with that. They promised to price match which is decent of them and the only error they have made would have been in telling you that the cheque would be sent to you.

Maybe for this they should offer you something for goodwill.

You might want to remove your order number from a public board.
