Car problems!

My partner bought a car 8 months ago, on higher purchase. He wastold by the sales person it would be cheap on tax, insurance andpetrol, which were all lies. The worst problem with the car is thatis consuming way too much petrol compared to the amount he istravelling to and from work. The company he bought it from say thatit'll take 2weeks for them to be able to check the car but he canleave the car with them. He needs the car to get to work, so heeither loses money by constantly filling up the car or not being ableto get to work. (All their courtesy cars are being used at themoment).

The car is costing him a fortune each month, the payments alone each month are £250 and then insurance and petrol on top are crippling him . Any advice would begreatly appreciated!!

You have not given anyone anywhere near enough information to help you arrive at the answer you are looking for.

Did you not know the payments would be £250 a month before signing the agreement?

Insurance clearly depends on his age, where he lives, his accident record etc.
Easy enough to get quotes before committing to a purchase, isn't it?

Fuel costs of course depend on distance travelled, amongst other things.

Did the guy actually lie, or are the figures you are now finding just not what you expected?

    What car is it?

Oh... nearly forgot... what was your question? ;)

The problem of saying the tax, insurance and petrol is "cheap" is that "cheap" is a very subjective thing.

Presumably you knew the hire purchase costs so no real grounds to complain about those.

The tax and the insurance are both things that you yourself could check before agreeing to take the car and so that only leaves the petrol.

What is the make, model and mark of the vehicle and its age? What is the manufactures claimed mpg figure? What are you actually achieving? What is the commute to work like (eg 15 miles of stop start city traffic or 15 miles of clear driving down the dual carriage way)?
