Table ordered is rickety - can I get a refund as my dad has binned the packaging?

Where have I said that it is solely dependant on price? Or are you just assuming as always? I'm open to being proven wrong. Have done in the past actually and rather than act like a baby spitting my dummy in a sulk, I can readily admit I was wrong and learn from my mistakes. Its all part of the learning process.
And flyboy, you implied there is actual legislation which states that price is completely irrelevant when decided whether something is of satisfactory quality or not.
Do those links even hint at that?
As for nothing sitting on the table.......well if its a draftmans table, it shouldn't because they are meant to be sloped! So fit for purpose only applies if it is not fit for the purpose it was intended by the manufacturer/retailer.....NOT the consumer (unless you have specifically asked the retailer if it is suitable for xyz and they say it is.....although even then it is more misdescribed as unfit for purpose).
Nor has the OP told us whether it came pre-built or whether it was a flat pack and had to be built by them.
The law is not always black and white. There are grey areas.....lots of them. If there were not.......we wouldn't need courts, now would we? And it would be up to a court to decide if something was of satisfactory quality given description, product in question and even - yes you guessed it - price paid! You keep using that word. You just can't help yourself, can you. :wall:
I think you ought to find that empty room to have your argument in.

Nothing logical to say so you'll stick with the personal element?
Flyboy I have had issue with only a faction of the members that you have had a problem with. In fact, I can count them on 3 fingers. Thats approx 1 every 2 years of my time here.
Now would you perhaps like to rethink the empty room accusation or even better, point it in a more accurate direction......like yourself. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Now now .... I've just popped back and it's up to 44 posts and some are really funny when they are not supposed to be...
I think I am shaky ground here and I don't want to risk the cost of postage to find that I am not going to get a refund so it's off to the charity shop for the table and I'll post a review on the company's website expressing my thoughts instead. They haven't even bothered to reply to my email so I'm afraid it's a lesson learnt (I've repaid my dad) and next time I'll ensure that my dad keeps the packaging. All your posts have been helpful and I'll exercise more care when I order on-line particularly with a new company.
It was a "cheap" table at £29 but I have previously spent £40 on a coffee table from Wilkinsons, which is still going strong to this day. The odd thing is in the picture it slants!

I have to say, that looks incredibly flimsy - no cross-bracing on anything, so it will wobble like crazy by design. Personally, I'd say the flaw was so patently inherent that the vendor can't have even tried using one before buying them!0 -
It's good to know that this table slopes... by design. Now now .... I've just popped back and it's up to 44 posts and some are really funny when they are not supposed to be...

I am sure I read earlier in this thread that a table that slopes is not fit for purpose, or something like that.
But never mind, that must've been a mistake.0 -

You must have imagined it.
No one would ever come out with a statement saying that the only table that should slope is a draftsmans table.

The OP never, ever mentioned that it was a normal function of the table. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
No I was hoping for a level table, one that you could put a cup of tea on without it sliding forward.
Thanks all - lesson learnt0
