Left hand drive for export
I'm giving serious consideration to buying a new or nearly new car to take with me overseas (for various reasons this would work out cheaper than buying one locally). However, it's a left hand drive country so I would be better off buying a LHD car.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how best to do this? I remember years ago there was talk of "Rip Off Britain" and how much cheaper it was to buy a car on the continent and bring it back. Is this still the case? I live in SE London on the Kent border so travelling to France or Holland and coming back by ferry / Eurotunnel wouldn't be difficult.

Wasn't there something about how it's perfectly possible to ask, say, a German dealership to supply you a right hand drive car, which you could then drive back to England, and the manufacturers couldn't refuse to supply it.
If so, maybe ask a local dealership if they can supply you a left hand drive car?0 -
First don't buy new, try to get a newish secondhand car. Then go to the expat forums and see if any cars you want are available. Lots of expats are selling up, you may even be able to swap your RHD car for a LHD.
Secondhand cars are a bit dearer in France from my experience.0
