Solar PV - Elec. Company won't pay Export

  • Thanks Mart, I think you're right (something tells me you may have had dealings with the MoD in the past!).

I think we just have to sit and wait now and see what the bills say. My husband thinks they will take endless re-readings of the meter and we may end up coming to an arrangement of a yearly reading with them. I will update the thread to let you know what happens.

Meanwhile just have to deal with my mother-in-law who thinks we're both going to prison for 'stealing' electricity even though we haven't!!

If you've records of having told people you think you need a new meter but they've not provided one then you've nothing to fear on the prison front.

If you ever have a quarter when your indicated consumption is negative, MOD just might be stirred into action. Well worth you checking meter a week or two before each 'official' reading is due and leaving immersion heater (or other high usage device) on for a few days to make sure there is something to pay.

  • Just an update on this one for Mart, Eric and any other interested parties:

Our May meter reading WAS less than the previous which spurred us to contact the MoD again. They have agreed to pay us a cheque each time the reading is negative.

(SSE did pay us for the export but then said it was a mistake on their part and they are debiting it from our next FIT payment)

So I am happy that MoD and SSE know what is going on and there is no way round this in the absence of an MPAN number. I am also happy to be getting 100% of the export back.

    :)

Hello WAJ. Nice to hear from you, and thanks for the update. I do like to know how these things work out, too damn nosey for my own good.

Sounds like a very fair resolution, and brilliant news for you. I can understand why SSE don't want to get involved, since their 'giant' meter supplying the MOD site won't ever be exporting (unless all your neighbours start installing too). The MOD get to sell your export units by shoving em straight up your neighbours (that's an industry technical term by the way ;) ). So MOD lose nothing. But to write off the admin, by refunding you completely is amazing. As I suspected before, it's easier for them to just go with it than spending a fortune trying to account for it 'properly'.

By the way, is the system performing well / as expected? Are you having fun yet?

  • Hi Mart, yes I am now that I've finally got the GEO display thingummy communicating with the transmitter on a permanent basis [eye rolling emoticon] and of course now that the sun has finally come out too.

In fact some might call me obsessed ;)
