Sorry to hear that, rising :(

These things happen for a reason and you have done the right thing. I am sure in time you will find the right canine friend for you xxx

Sorry to hear that but with kids next door you couldn't take the chance. Hopefully the rehoming centre will work with him or as you say get him into the forces. One of our GSD dogs became a forces dog when we were younger as it was too protective and although would never harm us it posed a risk to others. She has passed away now but she was pretty successful, my dads friend was in the dog branch so we saw her now and again when he had her.

Rising - it has to work both wys, if it does not .. would be a constant struggle for both you and the dog.

Hopefully they will find a home that is suitable for him and you will find a dog that is suitable for you.

You could not take a risk like that on.. no matter how cute and lovely the dog looked so pls do not beat yourself up over it.

    What everyone above said.

Rising- I said before when you were talking about getting another dog- you'd know it was THE one. This one obviously wasn't. It's temperament just wasn't right.

The right one WILL come along, I know it will. Don't beat yourself up, please. Kudos on your bravery in admitting that this one wasn't quite right for you, and better to let it go sooner rather than later.

    Dear Rising from the ashes,
so so sorry to hear your sad news. From what you've said it sounds like he's the sort of dog that will really enjoy working.

We had to have our dog put down nov 2010 after 18 wonderful years together and we still miss him. So I can understand the gap a dog can leave in your life.

    Sending hugs

    Sx
  • Thanks all for being so understanding ...... really down today (naturally) as it was so wonderful to have a waggly tail and someone pleased to see me when I came home yesterday.

Also hit home (not that it had been forgotten, but you kind of get into a "survival mode" to get through each day) how much I've been missing the joy and company of a dog - and has re-set off "missing Ben" to a new level:(

Trying to find a positive .... the cats - who've had to be separated a lot of the time over the past few weeks (fighting) were united in wide eyed shock & horror in my bedroom for 24 hours! Both were on my bed with no "fisticuffs" and they were both with me last night without incident. Fingers crossed that continues!:)

Wee cat is doing her best to cheer me up & is trying to be cute & asking for her tummy to be tickled.... they do know when you're down don't they! (Big cat disappeared out at around 4am when I got up - being cooped up in the house for 24 hours didn't amuse him at all!)

S-1 am (((hugs))) unless you've been there, it's impossible to understand the loss - sadly a fact when we let them share our lives but never makes it any easier.
