i just found out that flat cola is great at cleaning the toilet but haven't tried yet. We are on septic tank so definitely don't use nasty chemicals.

I can't believe I'm posting this but here goes!!

    Cleaning the toilet.
I am a Flylady so swish and swipe the loo everyday and give it as I thought a real good clean at least twice per week using well known heavy chemicals which tell you to spray it around the rim, leave a certain length of time and then brush round to clear away limescale and almost all household germs!!

Yesterday & don't ask me why. I mean why would anyone do this? I got my little compact mirror and had a look under said rim after I had just applied the chemicals. I thought I had applied it well, completely covering the rim and quite a quantity too. What I saw astonished me, dirty dirt that wasn't even touched by the chemicals or the subsequent vigorous brushing YUK!!! So today I thought I'd get it clean so I have been on my knees with a long rubber glove and a well known brand of wire pink soaped pad scrubbing away with my little mirror as my companion and I still can't get it all off, my arm is hurting and I think it's going to take 3 or 4 goes. Next time I'm going to get the heavy chemicals out again and apply it with a cloth or sponge - no more spraying for me.

MY CHALLENGE TO YOU IS......HAVE A LOOK UNDER YOUR RIM (or is it only me)AND REPORT BACK WHAT YOU FIND. Happy days.

I mean this in the nicest possible way....I think it's time you got out more

Word of warning: using cola to clean a loo actually contains colourant that over time will stain your toilet.

It was originally recommended as more of a one off use

I agree.....life is too short and there are a million and one other things that really nead to be cleaned more urgently and more often in my house that I don't get round to as it is...... (the oven, descaling kettle, washing out dustbins, cleaning skirtingboards arghhhhhhhhh) At least this thread has made me laugh out loud :rotfl: thank you OP
