Amount written first on cheque?

Have received a cheque with the amount written on the first line and the name of the organisation on the second. Is this valid/likely to go though or will I need to ask for another one?

I'd say it depends on the amount and the bank, some banks don't care - they just tap in the amount on the cheque (sometimes typing the wrong amount) and scan the account code of the sender.

But if its a large amount or a jobs worth at the branch, it may be rejected.
