Hi everybody
Will be doing all the stuff on Debt Free Wanabee soon, but just need to check this now.
In the middle of February I went into my local branch of the Leeds Building Society and requested to cancel a direct debit, an optional one so I was fine to cancel it. It did come out in February but I thought that I must not have got it cancelled the necessary 10 days before, but it has now gone out again this month, so am I right in thinking that the Leeds now has to give me it back.
Thank you

Did you notify both the bank AND the originator?
It may be that the originator simply setup the DD again since they didn't cancel it with them, or maybe the DD was never actually cancelled.
Ring the originator and ask them why they took it against your instructions would be a good first step.0 -
If you have cancelled the the DD then under the guranteee you can ask the bank to refund the amount and they can take it up with the orginator. If the DD was reinstated...the bank will have a record of it then again you can tell the bank that it was not authorised and ask for refund.0

Thank you
I'll see what I can do with the Leeds tomorrow, just hope they don't take out the other one I cancelled at the same time, I'm having enough of a headache with budgeting. (Though not as much as my daughter, she has to keep redoing the sums for me.)0
