Bank account offering free worldwide insurance

For some time have had the benefit of free travel insurance with HSBC but sadly this shortly comes to an end as my wife reaches 70. Looking now for alternatives. Guidance appreciated.

I would look for something similar to what you previously had.

  • I'm going to suggest you either speak to HSBC and try to leverage the loyal customer angle to get them to bend the rules for you.

alternatively I think you will need to stop paying for a bank account and put the money towards a specialist travel policy as I don't think you will be able to get in bundled in for someone over 70 as a free benefit.

Go on holiday with somebody younger.

    Leave the wife at home.

Yorkshire Bank kept trying to push one of these accounts with 'free' this and that on me.
But I found that they actually charged for this account.
One has to look at the smallprint, do the maths and work out whether one of these inclusive deals is actually cheaper. For me, it wasn't.

Co-op privilege or smilemore accounts have worldwide travel insurance for up to 75s I think (plus car breakdown, mobile phone insurance) for £13/month or so. Covers wife & spouse.

A bit naughty but I have always in the past switched to/from the bank's current account only when I needed the travel insurance, without a problem.
