Don't blame the OP for taking the opportunity to bag a bargain house. Blame the politicians who refuse to do away with the right to buy.

There are not many people would refuse the opportunity to get a 75% discount on a house if it were offered to them. I'm sure I wouldn't! (unless it was a sink estate of course)

Absolutely. You can't blame people for taking up the offer.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Hi, we are just about to take advantage of the governments right to buy with a possible discount of up to £75k The house we are in has been modernised by the council. We are looking at a mutual exchange to a house that will be nearer family, work etc.

Which house are you buying? The one you live in now or the one you are moving to?

When you say it doesn't meet modern standards how bad is it?

We are'nt sure to be honest. The exchange would bring us nearer family and work but it needs modernising. If I say the windows aren't double glazed that should give an overall view of the state of the property.
If it were an investment the house we are in now would be the choice but we are looking to move and settle down.
