mis-sold PPI through AWD (Carrington Carr) ??

We have received a letter this week from Martin Kaye solicitors who dealt with our remortgage advising that we may have been mis-sold the PPI added to our mortgage as a lump sum of £7,537 by AWD Home finance in 2007 when they dealt with our mortgage which we took with northern rock. I must admit we were young and naive when we remortgaged and were getting married at the time so stress levels were high with other things but I do remember questioning the PPI with the advisor as he said we had to have it because how else would we pay the mortgage if we were on sick or made redundant. I said we both would receive sick pay from work and redundancy packages but were told we had to have it to prevent us falling behind on payments or not being paid out. I'm not 100% sure without going through our papers who the PPI was with but the letter says that they have a solicitor barrie fairbairn who will deal with our case on a no win no fee basis I'm not sure what fee they take yet but I understand from the letter that we can try to do this ourselves?? How would we go about doing this and who do we contact? The mortgage company, AWD(carrington Carr) ?? Any help would be appreciated as this money would be an absolute godsend at the moment

A 2007 sale would have been the responsibility of Legal & General.
Arguably, the solicitor who dealt with arranging the mortgage ought to have spotted that it was a rubbish deal and had a duty of care to point it out to you as well.
If you were sold PPI and the premium was added to the mortgage then complain direct to L&G yourself and get all your money back/paid off your mortgage.
It is dead easy for a 2007 sale.0 -
Thanks magpie cottage. Do I just send the complaint to them on the grounds of being sold a single premium policy and being pressured into this or just stick with the single premium case? Wanting to get this sent of Asap so any assistance would be grately appreciated.0

The solicitor would have been arranged by AWD from their panel, with the cost being added as a lump sum to the mortgage  I'll let you think about the possible implications of both points.0 -

Hi
I have also recieved the same letter, could you possibly share the info with me to?
Thanks0 -
I have also had this letter and really dont know where to start, could you please share info with me to?
Thank you for your help :-)0 -
Fairly simple. Write to L&G telling them you were missold the PPI because it was added to the loan and therefore you will have to pay interest on it for the entire loan.
If they sold you their "ongoing service" for £2500 or some such amount complain about that too because you would have been able to borrow £2500 less (and paid interest on £2500 less) without it.0 -
Thank you so much.
Our ppi was taken out in November 07 and now i have found the relevant paperwork it seams to be with 'assurant solutions'.... do i write to them or Carrington Carr (AWD Finance) who sold it to us?
Can i just send the document that is on here once filled out?
Again thanks.0
