Landlord accessed our property whilst we were on holiday

Hi, we have been away for a few days, we happened to mention to our landlord that we would be away when he came to collect our rent.
Anyway, we get back to find the back door unlocked, now I know I locked this so knew something had happened. The landlord is the only one with a key, so immediately suspected him. I rang him up and eventually admitted to entering the property, he said he wanted to get some tools out if the shed, (which should have been emptied months ago) he apologised and said he thought he locked door. Now we are very happy with our landlord in general, and the house, and we were lucky that our house wasnt burgled after he left door unlocked for at least 3 nights, but im still really annoyed about it. Im thinking of changing the locks, but am I allowed, do I have to give landlord a copy?

You are perfectly within your rights to change the locks whilst you have a valid tenancy (something often recommended to tenants on here), so long as you change them back when you leave.
LL need not even know you have done this, as the only way he is likely to find out is if he attempts to enter again without your permission. If he challenges you for changing them, you have proof he has tried to get in again.0
