Advice - Redundancy - almost!

Hi
I was recently asked to leave my work under a Compromise Agreement. I was offered a sum of money to leave with no questions asked. They advised me that they were cutting costs and that my role was no longer required, but as I didn't qualify for redundancy, or at least wouldn't get a lot of money, they offered me 3 months salary.
It was all done so quickly and very badly and as my partner and I were expecting our first child I took the money and left.
I now find myself looking for work and claiming jobseekers allowance, which at mid thirties is something I never thought I would be doing again. We live in a one bedroom flat, and were about to move, but that has now been cancelled. So I'm in a tight spot and doing my best to keep motivated and get applying.
My query is that I went for an interview with an agency for a job at Tesco Bank. I got past the initial interview and then past the tesco interview with flying colours, being told I was the best candidate for the role. However the agency advised, as did Tesco bank that they would do a credit check. I thought it better to advise that I had a satisfied CCJ on my file from 5 years ago, and that I was on a mortgage break for 2 months due to being laid off so suddenly. They agency were quite rude and advised that I was instantly declined the role, they didn't even fulfill the credit check. I explained my situation and that I had been open and up front about, but they then said that they had done a check, as had Tesco and that it was still a no.
This was heartbreaking for me as it was such a good role, with such a good bank and had great prospects, I was clearly a strong candidate and had done well at the interview, but failed the credit check! I have since checked my credit file and no credit check was ever done by the employment agency, or Tesco. Should I do anything about this? It reeks of discrimination.
I appreciate that people can be idiots with money, I have been more than once, but that was all resolved 5 years ago and it was hard work but i fixed it. I have been accepted for a car loan, and more recently I was accepted by two high street banks for a mortgage over £100K, so how can I pass all that but fail a credit check for a job?
I want to apply for other banking roles but am now scared that I will not get a look in at all.
Maybe I should let it go, but to be so close to a job when my partner and I are struggling is really sad.
