"Free" Acuvue Lenses

The recent voucher for a free months' supply of Acuvue lenses is not all it's cracked up to me. Hardly any opticians will do it - and the ones that do, well they tried to charge me £75 for a contact lense fitting as I hadn't been fitted for that particular lense before. How is that free? It will only work if you are a regular Acuvue use and you use one of the few participating opticians.

Hmm, I thought about doing this. May leave it now. To many hoops to jump through0

I gave it a go yesterday and went into Vision Express. If you already have a prescription for Acuvue, then you don't qualify and, if you have a prescription for another brand (like me), you need a 'fitting' which, at Vision Express, they say costs £50. I was going to try Tesco Opticians but decided to save myself a trip and sent them an email instead...they're refusing to say if there's a fitting fee and have advised me to go into the store and ask. It doesn't seem like much of an incentive to try a different kind of lens.0

I had the same experience. My local Vision Express want £35 for a fitting. I have emailed Acuvue to mention that many people will be just as frustrated as me when the try to get this so called deal.0

I used one of these vouchers at Cardiff Asda opticians a few years back with no problem and no extra charge. May have changed their policy now though.0

I've been wearing contact lenses on and off for years, so was a bit miffed at the "fitting charge", even though I last went to Tesco Opticians for glasses and contacts around 2 years ago.
But the free voucher did get accepted, with £15 fitting fee, though but I have to wait two weeks or so for Acuvue to process the order.
The full price for a month of Acuvue TruEye is £40 at Tesco (I get quite dry eyes so she tested each eye with the Moist and TruEye versions) so it's still pretty good if you choose that option.
TruEye are the new silicone hydrogel lenses, though I found both options felt good (I usually use Daysoft lenses and Hypromellose drops as my eyes get quite dry). Five hours on, I'd say they're pretty much the same (Moist is around £8 cheaper than TruEye (not used drops today, so I could test these new varieties).
I'm just slightly short of my two-yearly check up so the optician said she should charge me or my test (even though I'm in Scotland (?)) but that was free too. I was right too, my prescription has changed0
