I wonder, do they have to be boiled or could you do them overnight in a slowcooker - just a thought?0

The Gü puds are listed here, including ingredients, so I am sure people have recipes for homemade versions (without the preservatives!)
http://www.ocado.com/webshop/getCategories.do?categoryId=108925
The OFM didn't rate all the Gü puds highly though:
Gü hot chocolate lava tarts
"I don't like this at all. Looked promising, but just thin and soggy."
Frü passionfruit crème Frûlée
"This tastes very bitter. Not nice."
Banoffee Pie:
By the way Merchant Gourmet do something called Dulce de Leche Caramel Toffee: http://www.merchant-gourmet.com/osb/itemdetails.cfm/ID/458
which is widely available in shops and they have a recipe for Banoffee pie using that:

best of everything; they just make the best
of everything that comes along their way."

I know this thread up to now, has all been about puddings....and I don't really do them, as we are not sweet toothed.
Just going back to the title, we are OS because food generally tastes better. Not necessarily because it is saving money, although that helps, just so much tastier & better for you. It does help that I love cooking, and do go to a great deal of bother if inviting folk round for a meal.
Family circumstances have changed recently, daughter now engaged, and spends a lot of time away from home, and seems to be getting fed ready meals. Prior to this, she has never shown the slightest interest in the kitchen department....all changed. She asks me questions about everything I make, how to do this or that. Have been honest with her...told her that I have been hiding things from her for years, as knew she wouldn't eat it if I told her what was in it. She was too fussy.
Example - home made coleslaw, I add a touch of mustard....she would have flipped her lid if she knew that was in it, and wouldn't have tried it. Now she knows, so says that she will have to buy some mustard to make her own coleslaw.
May not be a big deal to you, just reading this, but to me this is amazing....hey, she might be my daughter after all!0 -
Following on from the "non pudding" post, I was going to post a thread about this but here is a perfect place.
Because I was off being non OS at the weekend at a large craft fair, I decided to be nice to my hubby and get Mr Tescos to deliver the weekly shop. As with the best made plans of course it all went belly up and Tescos made a major mistake and gave us half of our shopping and some of somone else's. It was all ready meals. Hubby rang me and asked if I had started buying ready made food, to which he got a very curt reply from me
After discussing it with Tescos they said to keep the food as it had been off the van for over 30 mins. I went onto the tescos website and added it all up today, most of it was from the "finest" range all ready to dump in the microwave or oven. The grand total came to £40!!!!!! On ready made food. Reading the labels on the packages has been a huge education.
Now obviously I don't know how these people it should have been delivered to shop, but it doesn't bode well for the rest of their shopping basket.
The worst of it is, there's nothing I will eat apart from some yoghurts:mad: Hubby will demolish the lot.0 -
TKP wrote:Oooo, sorry I use a round fluted pie tin - 10" diameter
I'll edit the post to show this
A different size tin would also work - just make the pie deeper/shallower
Thank you.

Fair enough - 1/2 the recipe works well too. That's what I do if making for just us, as the full recipe does make a lot - and it is rather richSave the earth, it's the only planet with chocolate!0

Actually when he chose to stay at home when we went away, he bought various ready made products but didn't like them. Still couldn't be bothered to cook himself anything though :mad:0 -
