The recipe I used for banoffee pie (many years ago, so my memory is rusty) consisted a (cooked) biscuit base (hobnobs would probably be really nice) sliced bananas put on that, then a tin of condensed milk which has been boiled in the tin for 3 hours to turn into caramel (don't let the pan burn dry. My husband did that years ago and it exploded all over the kitchen!) pour contents over bananas, chill then eat! I'm sure there are more sophisticated recipes around though.0

We rarely eat puddings, much less ready made but I have to admit to buying these when they were on BOGOF because I wanted some ramekins
- they were lush - does anyone have a recipe that replicates them?

i make my banoffee pie using a sweet pasty case. i also boil the tins of condensedd milk too. but i i boil 3 or 4 at the same time and keep them in the cupboard for next time. as i find boiling the tins a pain. but its so tasty. i also put whipped double cream on top and grate choc on it too. looks really good and tastes lovely. so much better than shop boughtLife should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ~ WOO HOO what a ride!0

Sure you can have the recipe. This one is from my Gran and is a bit lengthy, but SO good - and easy to make
Please let me know if you make it, and what you think
Banoffe Pie
2 tins condensed milk
100g digestive biscuits
100g rich tea biscuits
50g melted butter
2 ripe bananas (or more - to taste)
284ml whipping cream
Put the tins of condensed milk in a large pot and fill with water until 3/4 way up the tins.
Cover and simmer for 3 hours (Ensure the water remains at least 1/2 way up the tins throughout)
When done : DO NOT OPEN THE TINS for at least 1 hour (I do mine the day before)
Crumb the biscuits together (I use a food processor) and add the melted butter - mix well.
Put the mixture in a flan tin and compress it firmly into the tin as the base (I use a 10" fluted tin)
Put it in the fridge for 2 hours (I do this the day before too - when I do the condensed milk)
Slice the bananas and lay out on the biscuit base
Spread the boiled caramel (condensed milk) over the bananas (it is easier with a knife that has been dipped in warm water)
Whip the cream and cover the pie
Sprinkle with grated chocolate or flake
Keep in the fridge.
Should last 4-5 days (in the fridge)
edited to say : you can boil more tins of condensed milk at the time and keep them in the cupboard for future use - make sure you mark them BOILED or something
I have been told that boiled CM lasts up to 3 years (not tried that though)Save the earth, it's the only planet with chocolate!0 -

You can buy them 'ready-boiled' now - I saw them in Asda last night, but I've never tried it. They cost about 3 times the price though!0 -
Gu brownies are excellent - I had a free one given out at a train station a while back. I still prefer a friend's take on Nigella's choc and cherry ones though!
The raw ingredients of puddings are cheap (flour, sugar, cocoa, milk, apples, etc) it's just the labour that bumps the cost up AFAIK.0 -
