Help with utilities

I have just been offered a new house which i am going to take, but I want to try and pay out as little as I can. Is there anyway of deciding who the cheapest gas and elec supplier is before I actually go into the house?

Thanks

Whatever actual day it is that you become the Owner/Tenant of this house, you will automatically become a customer of whoever is the current supplier to the property
As quickly as possible phone that supplier, report your occupation and give them the meter readings.

Once you have done this you are free to Switch to any supplier you like, but there is no harm in doing a bit of research before you commit to the house.
To do this you need to know the full post code of the house and who the present supplier is.

Unless the previous occupier will tell you, what you won't know is how much Gas/Electric the house consumes, so on the Switch sites enter 16000kwh of gas and 3500kwh Electric to get an idea of how the various suppliers rate agaist each other
Keep in mind these costs only value suppliers, your actual costs when living there could be much higher or lower

Good advice above as ever, but you don't actually need to know the existing supplier to get the comp site data in advance-just put in BG or whoever you like.
The point is to produce the comparative results.
The kWh figures above assume gas CH and DHW in the property.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
