DO NOT use OUL direct or any other member of the ONE CLAIMS group. We submitted a claim when our accommodation was broken into and my fiance´s Jewellery was stolen. We had a personal possessions limit of £500 per person and they limited our claim to £150 between us because jewellery is apparently not a personal possession, it is a 'valuable'. This is despite them only advertising the possessions limit. They also applied depreciation to antique jewellery for 'wear and tear', which any sane person would agree is ludicrous. Dealing with them only added to the distress of what was already a very horrible experience for my fiance´. Please for you own sake, do not insure yourselves with these crooks. Their policy limits payments to little more than the cost of the premium.0

Pretty much all insurance is on a basis or wear & tear. Unfortunately people do not really understand insurance & need to read their policies more carefully. Just remember as with everything in life you only get what you pay for.0

I would always insure valuables on the house insurance all risks policy - it gives new for old cover, has higher limits and these days posisbly a lower excess.
Travel insurance is really supposed to cover luggage and personal effects, not valuables - but there are some policies that have quite high limits. They also are going to be more stringent on proof (more Rolex watches have been stolen from Brits travelling abroad than have been manufactured)0
