Best Wi-Fi for laptop

Is anyone aware of any decent deals for a few days Wi-Fi use for a laptop? When I travel up north, I usually walk to the Wetherspoons a mile away from were I stay which is rather inconvenient.

The deal below from the main MSE site looked OK, but it is less than clear if O2 are still offering it when I click through from Quidco (can't even find it on Topcashback) or what the cost of the dongle and data costs as a whole. They seem to be only interested in mobile phones nowadays (I don't have a high tech mobile).

Whether 02 reception will be of any use is something else!

Current cashback deals.
  • £25 cashback with an O2 PAYG dongle and £15 top-up.

Both Topcashback and Quidco are offering this deal, which effectively gets you an O2 Pay As You Go dongle and 30-day, 3GB top-up for nothing. You must buy the £15 top-up within 30 days of purchase to qualify for the cashback with either site.

If you can't tether with your phone (requires the likes of a smartphone) then you'll be looking for a 3g dongle.
To dictate which you ideally need, you need to first check the area you are going to by going to the mobile provider sites and using each of their coverage checkers. Choose the best one out of the lot (and remember to select mobile internet, or mobile broadband if you can on the checker)

Once you've found that ideal provider, just look at their options for 3G dongles, or mobile broadband.
    For example:
    http://shop.o2.co.uk/promo/o2mobilebroadband/tab/Pay_and_Go
You can buy a 2gb one for 30 days usage (from when activated). But you could also just buy the modem, and go look on ebay or amazon for a better o2 sim deal.

You should ask around your friends and family, you might be surprised that someone already has a dongle that is dead (data used/time exceeded). Then you just need to either unlock and use any data card, or find a data card that matches the locked dongle.
You do seem to find better data deal sims on the likes of ebay, or even better dongles/data packages on Ebay, or Amazon.

You could look at quidco for each of the mobile sites for deals after you find the best one suited for the area.

Main thing to remember. If you buy anything from the mobile providers modem (dongle) wise, it will be locked to that particular network. You can purchase unlock codes, just like a mobile phone. So always assume that on ebay, or amazon, if you're searching for a modem that it will be locked to a specific network (and thus wont take another providers sim) unless it is stated otherwise.

I was trying to link that page to the £25 cashback on quidco, but not sure if it is applicable. It seems to link to mobile phones
    http://www.quidco.com/o2-mobile-broadband-payg/

Seems this may be the best
Mobile Broadband Monthly (available for 30 days) £10.21 for
    1GB + Unlimited Wi-Fi

Bet there is someone on freecycle who can spare a dongle.

I've also found that the JDW wifi contractor is getting pretty popular in other places.

I've now found two other pub, three coffee shops and a shopping centre who all use the same firm and I can sign-in for free in all of them.

Although I'm still keeping my dongle for further flung out and about stuff.

That's the thing, if you're likely to be out and about and want wifi with you, buy a dongle, and just get new sim cards when you need them. If you want more people to use it, ie family, buy a mifi unit or similar, and just replace the sim as needed.

But yes, freecycle often has them up on it. The highest price is at the start because you buy the dongle too, if you get a free one somewhere, then you only need to buy the sim after that.
