The same happened when A&L migrated to the Santander sort codes, new sort codes were issued. I had no problems with DDs and transfers so the information was out there but many did and it was the fault of other banks / providers for not updating their systems with the new codes.
Never associate with idiots on their own level, because, being an intelligent man, you'll try to deal with them on their level - and on their level they'll beat you every time.

Sadly bank staff seem only to be taught sales techniques. Back office systems are pretty much a mystery to most of them.0
