Pisa Airport to Florence

Hi,

Which is the quickest and cheapest method of transport from Pisa Airport to Florence? Any tips would be great. I am organising a hen weekend in Florence in March (17-20). There will be 13 of us. Anyone had any experience of Florence and can recommend places to eat, drink, visit etc?

About to book the diplomat hotel- anyone stayed there?

Thanks all

    There's a bus and a train but I can't find a website for that.

I've not done either as we rented a car.

    Diplomat looks fine
  • I did it by bus. It goes from outside the airport(to the left side of the car park) and takes you to the main bus/train station in Florence. We booked our tickets before we left the UK and it takes about an hour.

The usual tourist sights are great, Uffuzi, Camponile, Duomo etc.

The shopping is also excellent in Florence.
  • We did the train straight from Pisa airport and bought the tickets when we got there!
  • Its quite easy to use the train, I think it takes about an hour and you can buy your tickets in the airport, as you come out of departures on your right hand side by the car hire places and left luggage there is a counter were you buy the train tickets. Don't walk all the way to the train station without your tickets, bit of a hike!
  • When you come out of Pisa airport arrivals hall, turn left. The train tracks end where the terminal concrete starts.

You purchase a through ticket to Florence in the airport arrivals hall. (I think there is a tourist booth). Then the train takes you to Pisa main station where you change for the main train to Florence (the first train is simply a shuttle).

MUCH cheaper than the bus or the Ryan-opoly of Terrorvision. From memory when I travelled there last year and the year before, the return ticket is about 10 euros.

Also it is a very enjoyable trip with some pretty sights. Florence station can be a bit busy, so mind your bags.

Have a great time - Pisa and Florence are great. If you have time to stop in Pisa on the way back, do so. There is a left luggage at pisa station and you can be at the leaning tower in 20 mins gentle walk. Also, the cafes and shops are great!

You will need to check the train time-table as there are some quite long gaps between trains. The Ryanair bus will be more convenient than waiting a couple of hours for a train and you can buy tickets in advance. The bus itself takes less time than the train.

I have to say that we found the train much better than the bus! When we arrived, two planes had clearly just arrived at once, and there was a huge queue for the bus, and there was no way that everyone waiting for it would get on it... and there was no idea when the next bus would be. Faced with a long wait, we got a refund on the bus ticket and hopped on the train!

So I would recommend the train, and you can check the times at

    http://www.trenitalia.it/en/index.html

I think you can even buy the tickets using the website.

Remember to get your tickets stamped before you get on the train - there are special machines on the platform, and you'll see everyone else doing it.

I would agree with VickyM- the train is so close to the airport-nearly part of it and easy. The connecting train to Florence can be crowded but just squash on-definately use trenitalia to check times in case it does not coincide with your flight but it should do. I'd go back to Pisa for a weekend eating and shopping just on the basis of how easily you can get from the airport-and how cheapily.
