0844 numbers and schools

Any sensible school would accept an email. I would write to the Headteacher to say
a. you will report via email and
b. you don't object to telephoning but you do object to 0844 numbers and will not use it.
If that brings no joy then other avenues open are to write to the Chairman of the Governing Body to explain the problem(copy the Headteacher so he/she knows the pressure is on).
I guess your local councillor might also want to know.
Essentially you make it as awkward as possible for the school until it is easier for them to be more flexible.
If the school won't accept email then it is not about truancy but about revenue raising.0
