Buying new TV

Now that the price of big flat TVs has come down and our old CRT TV is showing its age we are thinking about buying a new TV. The choice is vast, plasma/LCD, HD/ HD ready and so on.
Can anyone recommend a good website - somewhere to start my research explaining what means what. Looking for 40"-42" freeview a must, preferably future HD proof. Not 3-D as the technology is still too young.
I assume Scart input from DVD player and HDMI inputs from laptop are standard.
Any particular brands to avoid or is it you get what you pay for?

Take a look at AVForums, no better place to get advice on what to look for within the constraints of your requirements and budget.0
