Used to be the case, but no longer true. Cautions are spent immediately.

This is correct - cautions are classed as "spent" immediately as far as the Rehab of offenders act is concerned; however if you are undergoing more than just a basic disclosure check, which for a job in a bank I imagine you would do - cautions will show for life.

It would be a pretty sloppy bank that just did a basic check, because that person could have had a caution for theft...from a bank previously; under a basic check this would not show.

It probably wont be on there, most convictions are classed as spent after 6 years or so. I had a caution about eight years ago for criminal damage (stupid teenage drunkenness) I had a CRB done at work about 18 months ago and it wasn't even on their.
i think though even if it is on there you can just explain how stupid you were and i couldn't see it standing against you
You obviously underwent a basic check, as illustrated by my (badly formatted!) table above a caution does not show, however on a standard and enhanced; it will show - no two ways about it. Unless by some miracle it had been lost from the PNC.

OP, I'm not trying to worry you or anything, just give you the facts. As I stated before I should imagine that fare dodging 15 years ago would not bar you from working in a bank. Armed robbery 15 years ago, perhaps!
