Continuous payment authority on credit card

Hi

I had a continuous payment agreement on my virgin credit card that was taken monthly a couple of years ago.

I then cancelled the agreement with the company and another payment has not been take since.

But I have been spooked recently with reading articles about people saying up to six years later they got a bill or a payment taken. Usually these people have cancelled their credit card account, but not always by the looks of things

I was just wondering if this is still a possibility? Even though CPA has been cancelled with the company the credit card account is still running all be it a different card as the other expirerd. Because it was cancelled a couple of years or more ago I have no longer got proof of cancellation so if a payment was taken years after the last one will I have a leg to stand on? As it should technically be an unauthorised payment!

Like I say no payments have been taken since I cancelled a couple of years ago but I was wondering if it ever could?
Debt
Barclaycard (0% for 29 months) = £2500
Barclaycard (0% until September 14) =£476.93
Barclaycard (0% until October 14) = £390.82
Barclaycard (0% until May 16) = £105.58
TOTAL DEBT = 10364 (aim to clear June 16)

    They could.
    You would claim it's unauthorised.
Ideally if you had proof of cancellation that would be great, but they'd have to proof it was authorised.
You would raise a dispute and it would be investigated.

Ultimately I think the burden of proof is on them to prove authorisation.

Ok so I should be fine if it did happen but no guarantee.

I take it as well even after all this time they shouldn't be able to take more than was originally agreed before cancelation? For example one months payment.

Is there even a limit on the maximum time between them attempting continuous payments? Seems fairly rediculus if there is not.
