Urgently need new mobile

Please help!!!

I have washed my husband's mobile phone (well he should have emptied his pockets!) and we need a new handset for him but don't have much money. He is on a Vodafone contract but is seriously contemplating sacking it for a Vodafone PAYG.

Can anyone give us any pointers? Please!

  • What kind of phone are you after?

Does it need latest features such as MP3, Camera etc or would a £20 Simple Phone do?
  • Is the contract up so he can cancel?

https://www.e2save.com do good deals on contracts with cash back, if you are organised to send the relevant bills in then they are reliable I think. I just got DD a Samsumg E900 on O2 with 250 x net mins and 100 texts for £7.50 a month after cashback. She just finished one 12 month contract and i got all the cashbacks no probs, even got one twice!

If you are with Virgin Media for your tv then they do sims for £10 a month for existing customers with 300 mins and 300 texts and they will also give you a very basic phone, Nokia 1112 I think. There is no minimum contract either.

There is a whole thread about mobiles on here too so check that out for more ideas.

  • Thanks to Harrietxxx and Jakejakejake for your replies. He wants only a basic one with no frills. We're prepared to look at either the cheapest PAYG or contract. Can you let me know jakejakejake where we might get the cheap £20 phone?
    Thanks

snap i just washed my sons mobile on a whites setting too.do you think i could take it back to shop and say its faulty
  • we went to look for one for DS, both of us are on Orange so wanted him on same but PAYG, ORange shop had one for £29.99 as did Carphone warehouse but DH asked ORange if he could link him to his contract. Best they could do was free upgrade for DH and a free PAYG sim for DS. I know DH has been on contract for hundreds of years so they think he was worth keeping I guess.
  • Did he have it insured?

    Hi
Samsung C120 - £14.95 TMob PAYG or £24.95 Vodafone PAYG
    http://shop.carphonewarehouse.com/pay-as-you-go/samsung/c120/

Phones from the Carphone Warehouse usually come Unlocked to ALL Networks, so you could buy the TMobile one and get a free vodafone sim (See Sticky on freebie board) or off ebay for a couple of quid. Also, you have to top up £10 on ALL PAYG phones in CPW.

Or the Sony Ericsson J220i at Vodafone.co.uk is £27.

  • what about T J Hughes? They usually have a cheap phone on T Mobile or Vodaphone (not a lot of use to me on Orange! even though I only use or want a basic phone)
