Refund issues with MCE insurance.

I cancelled my car insurance with MCE a week ago. They require that you submit a pro-forma cancellation declaration which I did and they hve accepted the cancellation. Today enquired as to when I wold receive my refund. They said it would be within 60 days which seems an inordinate length of time. Furthermore, they said the refund could not be issued (due to data protectin and money laundering laws) until they have written to me gain to confirm the credit not they have raised on my account and I must telephone them to confirm receipt of this letter. I have been cancelling car insurance for 30 years and never had to wait up to 60 days for a refund or had my refund held to ranso pending a confirmation phone call, even though the cancellation has been acknowledged. I am considering calling the ombudsman but before doing so, has anyone had a similar experience or able to clarify whether they are using sharp practice or these things are now legal requirement, which I seriously doubt! Thanks in advance.
