this is a great free programme for spyware http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,22262-order,1-page,1-c,alldownloads/description.html
as before use avg free
and
lavasofts ad-aware is great http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html
for those bad viruses/trojans or worms i tend to go here https://www.trendmicro.com and use there FREE house doctor its a online scan
and removes anything nasty
imho i havent found anything better for nothing
if you wish to pay for one this is great far better than norton and it uses far less resources http://www.yellowbussecurity.co.uk/nod32-Products.asp
just my 2 cents0 -
I'd second AVGFree - even the free version beat both Norton & McAfee in recent comparison tests. If you don't mind supplying your e-mail address for activation then Active VirusShield http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/index.adp? supplied to anyone, but via AOL, is excellent as it uses Kaspersky's AV engine.0

Now you have made the decision to dump Norton (it's crap anyway)
To uninstall it run this program to rid your system of the residue it leaves behind

if that is Norton internet security then you will aslo need a decent free firewall as well
