Have you ever lied on your CV?

Just a question that popped into my head today as I was thinking about the state of my CV and how many crappy jobs I've got listed on it. I found myself wondering "How many people out there have actually lied on their CV or application?" It then made me wonder how employers go about dealing with this if its a large problem.
I know for government, council and security jobs its going to be picked up in seconds (and I've known people get sacked for it within 48 hours of starting) but for those that do no vetting and just contact your named referees surely thats all they have to go on?!
So here it is guys, the big question:
Have you ever lied on your CV / Application to an employer?
If so, please do tell your tale! I'd also be interested to hear from those who work for HR or do the recruiting / vetting for their companies. Do you rigorously check everything or do you come to accept you're going to have porkies told?

No, it's a terrible idea. Lies catch up with you in unexpected ways.0

No, I haven't, because I'm not an idiot.
And because I've never needed to :rotfl:You had me at your proper use of "you're".0 -
Never lied, tweaked. But there is always some truth behind it.0

Hell no.....I know for a fact I would be found out lol..... but have been lucky enough to have good qualifications and good previous employers which helps0

Good thread!
I've never told porkies to big myself up, nor have I lied about my qualifications/experience but I have 'missed things out' if I thought it irrelevant or I didn't want the prospective employer to know about it.
But I wouldn't be surprised if people do .. stretch the truth, shall we say! (read: tell rampant lies :rotfl:) and I wonder if these things ever get checked.0 -

Some people lie the other way in actually wanting to dumb down their qualifications. i.e taking a factory or supermarket job.0 -
no not personally but my sister did ! she lied about her qualifications in order to gain a job in the finance industry ! can't believe they didnt even check !0
