No Barclaycard statements..?!?

Hi,

Just a quick one really.

I've noticed that my barclaycard online account does not allow me to access my monthly statements...(Message says we are unable to carry out your request.. so assume some features have been disabled).. Therefore I cannot actually see what the interest amount is ..?

I'm not sure if my account/card is closed, as I don't use it, just pay it off each month. However as I have gone paperless... I'm seemingly no longer able to view my statements...? So I can't check what I'm being charged each month. And I have had many issues with B'card in the past over charges and although through some bitter complaining have been compensated..I'm keen to keep on top of it.

Is it illegal for them to do that.?
Does it make any difference if the card is active or not..?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Have you tried calling them? I'm sure they would be the best people to ask.
  • No.. there customer services are absolutely shocking.
I really wanted to know what my consumer rights are..

It's not illegal for them to have computer issues.

It could be that when cards are closed you don't get online access but I'm guessing.

If you are making payments and owe them money then you are entitled to a breakdown of charges, but despite the fact that they are awful to deal with (I agree totally) there is no-one else who will be able to sort out Barclaycard compute issues for you.

You could send them a secure message or you could raise a complaint.
I have found complaints get dealt with a bit quicker generally, so raise a complaint on-line.

Yes you should have access to the information you want, but no-one except Barclays can help you.
  • Thanks. I hear what you are saying and I will raise a complaint on line for sure. However I guess my point is that computer issue or not, for such a huge organistion it's not acceptable and therefore wondered if it does affect my rights as a consumer, because that will obvisouly give my complaint more wellie. As I've had many issues with them before (and as it's not just a one off.. I've noticed it over the last couple of times I've logged in -firstly assuming it was an IT issue) I wanted to be in possession of the basic facts..

You are entitled to the information yes.
You are right that quoting some legal act or other does often give your complaint credibility and wellie.
Sorry I don't know the legislation but I'm positive that you are entitled to see a breakdown of the interest etc.

When did you notice this? How long as it been going on for?

You say you are not sure if your account is open or closed as you don't use it but just pay it off each month.

What do you mean? This makes very little sense,

Also, if you can't see any statements HOW do you know how much to pay, due date, minimum payment amount etc. Your post appears concerned only with knowing how much interest you are paying ... which raises the question of why you are paying interest on a card which you claim to pay off each month.

    You refuse to phone them.

You want to make a complaint and quote legislation. Telephoning them first to ask what the problem is would really be a much better idea in the first instance ... even if their customer services are absolutely shocking.

If your account is defaulted and passed to DCA you will not be able to see your statements on Barclaycard website.
  • After many months of having a similiar problem to you and not wanting to ring them I finally had to ring them to deal with a problem. I tried to make a payment online and they would not authorise it.

So I grudgingly rung them and spoke to a very nice Indian woman. It turned out that they just needed to verify a couple of details. My account was up and running properly again in a few minutes.

As a bonus It also had a 6.9% balance transfer offer on it so I quickly transferred over £5000.

There is no point going on about complaining when you have not even rung them as it may be a problem that will take seconds to sort out.

  • Well, let me clarify then... I simply want to know what my rights.. that is the only question I'm asking...

The rest, deliberately brief, but gives some context. My account hasn't defaulted, I have a DD each month for more than the minimimum amount.. so I am paying it off. I simply want to know what my rights are as a paying customer with a credit agreement for a credit card, what level of service should I accept - as a paying customer??? No doubt we all have experience of what happens when the tables are turned. This isn't a post about spiralling debt and not wanting to talk to my creditors ...

I choose not to (shocking customer service - having spent circa 3 hours on the phone to them over a period of 3 weeks = not wasting further time on the phone, now knowing that online contact will result in a speedier result) I personally find them a disorganised and inept (in my expereince) organisation and after years of dealing with credit card companies, feel strongly that a complaint is what I need to make. I simply wanted to know what my rights are... that is it.

Well if you are thinking that you can have your debt wiped off and major compensation you won't get that.

You might be £20 or something similar
  • Of course I'm not thinking that I'll get my debt wiped off! But equally I won't turn my nose up up £20... because that's £20 off my debt. Last time I coomplained I was compensated £150.. granted the service from bcard was rock bottom. But it's absolutely worth complaining, if valid.
