For now, if you recognise the number just don't answer.

Better help will be along soon.

Simply refuse their offer to pay and advise them that any more calls will be regarded as harassment under the terms of The Protection from Harassment Act 1997. Bid them goodbye and hang up. Make a note of the date and time. A stiff drink is optional, but recommended. :)

Think I just received my first phone call from the 'debt collectors'. Any advice on what to say when they call? My plan of action was just to say it's the wrong number and I have no idea who they are talking about.

Yes, my advice would be don't say that or they won't go away. You want them to go away.

Search the forum for 'Roxburghe phone calls' which have been discussed loads of times with suggested wording given on lots of threads.

    :)
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Why be worried about the idiot debt collectors calling? You are lucky, they never call me. Just say that you are making a note of their call and ask them to confirm if they agree with your note on the time of the call... and then ask them not to call again as you are preparing a case for harassment.
