No - you'll need the PIN. You'll need to wait.0

Contact the bank for a chip + Signature card but you will still have to wait about a week, but at least there will be no pin to worry about. We’ve had to remove your signature because your opinion differs from ours. It is up to the merchant if they will accept it without a pin number, however the liability if it turns out to be fraudulent is now on them so very few places will allow this. And if it is a high risk merchant, credit card companies can override this and decline it if a pin is not asked for.0

First of all, not all merchants in the UK have Chip & PIN. There's no legal requirement for them to do so.
Secondly, merchants follow the prompts given to them via their pay point terminals.
If your card is Chip & PIN - then you'll be asked to enter your PIN
If your card is Chip & Signature - Then a transaction slip is automatically processed for you to sign (Offers the consumer a higher degree of protection - Watchdog 13 Feb 2007). When a chipped card is presented to a retailer they have no way of knowing what type of card they are being offered, PIN or Signature - until the card is inserted into the Chip reader.
If your card is magstrip only (as many UK cards still are, as are the majority of foreign cards - then you will be asked to sign).
Saying all that when there's any sort of communications failure, retailers can revert back to the old impression type transactions and signatures.

In your situation you may find the garage will be quite helpful. Have a word with them, and your card issuer. Your garage may make a phone call to authorise the transaction as you are awaiting your PIN, (or new safer to use Chip & Signature Card). It's entirely up to the garage.0 -
Probably worth just talking to the garage - say it's a new card, the pin hasn't come through, provide plenty of ID etc and I doubt they'll have a problem putting it through for you...0

Some banks allow you to check/change your pin online. So if you have an online account, login and have a look. If you can't find where to do it just ring up and ask as it might just be hidden away somewhere.0

You sure about that? The PIN number is now stored on the chip so I believe this would be impossible to do. You can certainly view your pin online, not change it though0 -

Your right there isn't, but as I said, if they don't and a transaction then turns out to be fraudulent, the liability is now on the merchant whereas pre-chip & pin it was with the CC CompanySecondly, merchants follow the prompts given to them via their pay point terminals.

This can be overrided within the retailer to enable a chip & pin transaction to be signed for0 -
Surely the garage should be able to put it through as 'customer not present' on the Streamline machine? Though as someone else suggested, you'd want to take along sufficient ID so they'd feel comfortable that you hadn't pinched someone else's card.0
