Credit Card for building work?

Hi,
First post here
We're remortgaging and taking a little extra cash to get some building work done. We have a couple of credit cards that we pay the minimum on and I've had a thought that rather than pay the cash to the builders, I'd be better off paying off the credit cards and paying the builder with the credit card.
This way I'd get a few months interest free and also the credit card would provide extra cover should anything go wrong. After a couple of months I could then do a balance transfer to a 0% card.
Is there any drawbacks to my thinking or a better way of juggling these?
Thanks.

dunno about england but up here in scotland i doubt youll find many builders with a credit card machine tucked away in their van.0

Maybe the cowboys won't (we've been using CheckaTrade.com to hopefully avoid this) but I'd check with the builder we eventually choose that they take CC's before carrying out my plan0

Nothing wrong with your plan assuming of course the builders accept credit cards.0
