can anyone help please?

A year ago, a car in front of me slammed its brakes on,for no apparent reason,i didnt manage to avoid hitting the car,but only slightly, damaged my number plate,(an inch crack at the joint screw) with no apparent damage to other car. i gave my details etc. After insuring with an alternative broker. i have only just found out that my insurance compny have paid out over £5,000 to this person for whip lash??? unbeknown to me,as they didnt tell me. therefore i have been giving false information to other companys, upon re insuring. when i asked them about it,they said they didnt havt to inform me about any such claim. can this be right, as they have put me in a position of non disclosure, without me having any knowledge?

If you were unaware of the payout then that would be "innocent" non disclosure of the actual claim, but you were aware of the collision, so cannot claim that was "innocent" non disclosure.

When you got your renewal details following the collision, wasn't your NCD affected, or the claim marked somehow (eg a "life" lost if you have protected NCD)?

Presumably you have been declaring the incident and so the only issue is about the amount of the claim which makes very little difference (if any) to premiums. It is unlikely to have any significant impact.

Of cause if you have not been declaring the incident either then you have bigger issues.
  • At time of incident, the person in front made nothing of it.so came as a complete suprise to me to find out by my hiked premium, that this had been going on for a year. no mention at all.my ncb was protected. i have been with company 25 years,as have other members of my family. i own 3 vehicles insured amouting to a lot of money. we have all moved to a competitor now,who assure me of better customer service for my buck. thankyou for the helpfull comments. its good to talk, not always good to presume.
