Anyone know of a charity who provides website services as part of their fundraising?

I have a small business and need a website, I have one at the moment that's just one page of very basic information and need a new one with just a few pages of basic information and perhaps something like a guestbook or comments page. No shopping cart or anything complicated like that. I have rung a local volunteer centre who were sure they knew of someone but no one has got back to me (the story of my life at the moment!!) so wondered if someone on here maybe knows of a voluntary organisation, preferably in the north west, who can do this.
While there are plenty of private individuals out there, I'd as well my money went to a vol organisation.
Thanks for any ideas.

So you are looking for a charity that offers web design services? Whilst charities are looking to widen their revenue generating options I am not sure any have gone that far yet.0

If you don't want to pay (probably not the best "shop front" for your business) then you can get a free site with companies like Weebly, Moonfruit etc and use a subdomain address such as mywebsite.webhost.com.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -
No No, you misunderstand me. I'm quite happy to pay, I'd just rather my money went to a voluntary organisation than a private company, that's all.
Thanks for the replies0 -

Thing is, I think you get what you pay for in business, and I'm not sure that many charities would have 'writing websites for other people' as one of their core activities, fundraising or otherwise. You could find a voluntary organisation offering people training and experience, but you have to ask yourself, do you want a professional looking and well written website or do you want something done by a trainee? I'm not saying it wouldn't be as good as something from a professional company, BUT it may well take longer, require more checking at your end and the organisation's ends - if you've got the time for that.
You might find local colleges looking for projects for their students, but again, this isn't the best time of year for that. I know one of our Unis is always looking for 'projects' for groups of final years, but the time commitment isn't trivial.
You definitely want to retain ownership of the site yourself, and probably to be able to make simple changes - eg you notice a typo, do you want to have to get in touch with the organisation who developed the site or do you want to be able to correct it there and then? And also, if you want to make major changes, will you be able to use the same organisation, chances are it will be a completely different person assigned to it.
I applaud your intentions, just not sure about the practicality!tombruton87 wrote: »yes the company makes no profit however it is not a charity so the ppl behind it are still making there moneySignature removed for peace of mind0
