Unemployed and owe on credit cards :( Help please

Hi I am a single parents and have been unemployed for about 6 months. I owe quite a bit on credit cards and I am really struggling to pay it off each month although I am. Im very lucky in one hand as I do live with my parents and they are a great support. I still pay board and all my bills. I havent a clue what to. I can only pay the minimun each month with means the amount that I owe is getting higher. I would change credit cards but with been unemployed I would just get turned down. As Im struggling to get a job and HATE been on job seekers!! IN a few weeks im going to set up my own business from home so fingers crossed I should get a bit more income. But Im getting really worried I feel like I cant get out of this mess :(

    Hi and welcome to MSE.

    And well done on posting.

The best place for help is probably the Debt-free Wannabe part of the forum. Lots of friendly help there.

So I'd repost over there and complete a Statement of Affairs (SOA) at www.makesenseofcards.co.uk.

That will help you see what spending you do and to prioritise bills.
I still pay board and all my bills.
This is great. Try and keep it this way.
I havent a clue what to. I can only pay the minimun each month with means the amount that I owe is getting higher.
Are you spending on the cards still? Do you have PPI on the cards? What other charges are going through each month?

A hint that doesn't solve your problem is to pay £1 more than the minimum payment. This reduces the risk of rate rises and looks better on your credit file should you need credit in the future.
I would change credit cards but with been unemployed I would just get turned down. IN a few weeks im going to set up my own business from home so fingers crossed I should get a bit more income. But Im getting really worried I feel like I cant get out of this mess
You will struggle to get a new card, but the same will also be true if you're self employed as well. So in a perfect world you want to continue maintaining your existing cards the best you can.

Get over to DFW and take it from there.

Keep paying the minimum until you get a job, is your buisness at home going to be a guaranteed success where you know your cards will payed off quicker.
Anyway that you can throw a few figures at the forum with your total debt!!
  • i think you should try with keeping up the payments, but thats not easy. i think if you go onto the debit section on the boards somone will point in the right direction of what help is around and how to obtain it:j
not a lot of help but someone will advise you.;)
  • Hi thank you so much for replying to me so fast. That is a good idea on just addig another £1 to do it :) I did have PPI but the thing is that I was working then I went to uni which I was on a bursery and unfortunity I was withdrawn over failing one of my essays :( Any way I phoned up my credit card company and told them the situation and they said that my PPI does not cover if you finished uni only working. which I should of known that but I was going through quite a lot at the time and it didnt think about it. But Iv cancelled it now as there were no point paying it out.

    Thanks

Hi Thanks for your comment :) Well the jobseekers have got a new scheme when you have been on jobseekers for a min of 6 months and for the first so many weeks you still get the same ammount of money plus what ever you earn and you get a business mentor. Im a fully trained beauty therapist and I feel that I will do well at this. I hate that the fact the im not working and bringing in my own income so this is the only way. And to be honest I do like the idea of working for my self and I love doing beauty. Its just this dark cload hanging over me and I just dont know where do go. I just want to get it sorted.

    Thanks

Head over to the Reclaiming section of the forum too. See if you could get your PPI premiums back.
