Boiler has gone kaput!

Who told you that the boiler is beyond economic repair? Have you got a second opinion from a local independent RGI?
Make and model?
What is the fault? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
My husband is in receipt of disability allowance snce he had a stroke in 2010. I got someone out from carers place. He spent ten minutes looking at it then told us the distributor had gone and one of the control panels. Would cost about 300 for parts and would go and price up for us then never got in touch again. A friend at work has a corgi trained hubby he came and had a good look. Took the boiler apart and said it was wrong what the other man had said in part and rather than throw money at it probably better to get a new one as would cost too much to fix. Our boiler is a Ravenheat and is about 25 years old0

What qualification did someone from the 'carer's place' have to work on a gas boiler? Was he a proper RGI? A distributor is something you have on a car, not a boiler!
CORGI is also obsolete and has been for over 2 years now-all gas engineers must be GSR.
So I would suggest that you get a local independent RGI out to look at it-try and find one who is familiar with your modelNo free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

A ravenheat lasting 25 years?!, are you sure there shouldn't be a decimal point in there!0

I'm afraid you are between a rock and a hard place on this. That is a good life. A new (cheapo) boiler will struggle to attain 10 years.
This is not intended as a trick question but is it a fair assumption the boiler has been little serviced over the years? Could you also confirm that it is a combi and you have no hot-water cylinder?0 -
Surely disabilty allowance qualifies you for the warmfront grant?0
