It depends how dirty she gets to be honest. Dogs clean themselves and produce oils for their coats to keep them in good condition so ideally you dont want to be stripping these away by washing her too much.
Muddy paws can simply be 'dunked' in a washing up bowl/ bucket to get most of the mud off, left to dry and then any remain dirt brushed out. Same goes for under belly.

So really its just a case of when you cant stand the smelly dog smell any more :D

Once or twice a year is fine says her that has to bath her very mucky Bichon at least once a month, on the other hand my sheltie hasn't had a bath/shower for over 3 years.

I'dd say same as everyone else, unless there is a special skin condition/fleas etc then when they are mucky/smelly.

My Cavs get bathed when i can smell them.

One of mine got sprayed by a tom cat yesterday so she (and her sister) have been bathed this afternoon.

I would agree only when she needs it. We used to only bathe our dogs a couple of times a year but now they're older and less able to keep themselves clean it's a couple of times a month. You can get cleaning wipes from pet stores to freshen them up in between baths or sprinkle a bit of bicarbonate of soda in their fur then brush it out later for a doggy dry shampoo! One thing you need to do regularly with Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's is clean their ears using a gentle ear cleaning solution and a cotton ball (but not a cotton bud!)

We trim ours more often than we bathe them. We find keeping their ears eyes and paws nice and their underbellies trimmed means they don't pick up too much and any part of them that does can easily be sponged
