Offer on house accepted

I have received and accepted an offer on my house but it has happened rather quicker than expected and I have several questions if anyone can help.
At present I am paying a variable mortgage; due to a bank error I should have been on a two year fixed rate. At present this complaint is under investigation by the Ombudsman. Firstly will this make any difference to my move? Secondly, at my advanced age (nearly 20 years older than Martin and female) would it be best to clear my mortgage (I am downsizing)? Thirdly the house I am buying needs a lot of renovation work and I am considering moving into a flat for a short period. Are there any pitfalls here? I am also advised I may encounter a few difficulties with my proposed purchase as the property is empty and is owned by the deceased gentleman's two sons, one of whom lives in Germany and the other in the U.K. The Vendors' agent has advised I instruct a good solicitor rather than an online conveyancer, which I had been considering.
Any help more than gratefully received.

Just as an aside, what room would most folk start with first when renovating and please does anyone know Staplehurst which is where I am moving?

I would have thought that you could repay your mortgage and move then continue with the ombudsman complaint - but you need to ensure that you can still obtain a mortgage - your current lender will probably decline the option.
No need to clear your mortgage, but if you can you need to think what else you'd do with the money - if you'd have it on deposit it's probably best pay the mortgage off.
Good idea to move into a flat while the work is done
Presume both sons want to sell at the price you've agreed, in that case it shouldn't be any more difficult than buying from a couple
Can't advise on good solicitor vs online conveyancer - good is the important adjective rather than online I expect!
If I was renting I'd try and get the whole renovation underway at once, that way it'll be finished quicker0
