Santander - Bank say records archived

Hi,
I have contacted Santander regarding a mortgage I had cleared 8 years ago with a view to reclaiming PPI charges.
Unfortunately I do not have any of my paperwork (not even an account number) but I sent them a letter detailing who I am, where the mortgage was for and when I took it out.
They have now responded to me by saying that the records have been archived so they are unable to provide me with any information.
Does anyone have some advice on what I should do next ?
Thanks.

If they actually said that your specific records have been archived then that would imply that they have traced you and your mortgage details on their system and that the records haven't been destroyed. You should send them an SAR which will force them to go and dig them out. There's information about how to do that in the Stickies at the top of the forum page.0

If they mean they have put them into an archive and they can retrieve them then yes a Data Subject Access Request will produce information (although there is no guarantee it will help).
If they simply mean "it will have been archived" it MAY produce information (again with no guarantee it will help) if it has been archived in a system that enables them to retrieve it using the information you give them.
If though, for example, it is archived by account number (which certainly used to be common) rather than by name and you do not have the account number then the filing system is not "relevant" for the purposes of your request and they cannot be forced to search through all their archives for it.0 -

As MPPI is standalone from the mortgage, why did you think the mortgage details would help you?
If you know you had MPPI then why do you need information on the mortgage?
If you dont know if you had MPPI then why not look at your current account as that is where MPPI is paid?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Why do you feel you should be able to reclaim the protection premiums?0 -
If it was cleared years ago, then perhaps he doesn't have current account statements from the time?
If that is the case, then asking for mortgage information is not going to help. Asking for current account information is.
Also, a lot of Abbey mortgages were put in place with brokers/advisers. In those cases, the lenders wouldnt know about the insurances and has no liability for any advice given.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
