GAME stores

Has anyone heard about what has happened to the GAME stores? In the last week it has gone into administration, and they didn't accept my £25 gift card. This is essentially theft, as someone has given the store £25 which I should have been able to spend, then I don't get anything back for it. The man behind the counter said it could be possible for me to refund the card through the administrators, but then said he had no idea how I would do so. Could anyone offer any advice? Otherwise they have stolen £25 and much more from all the other people who have gift cards.

I believe Price Cooper Waterhouse have been appointed as their administrators, and you can contact them directly for a refund of your £25. Sadly you'll be in a massive line behind distributors etc whom have unpaid bills.

This has been on the cards for a few weeks now, and you should have spent your giftcard and any GAME points before the administrators were appointed.

There are other threads on this.
There are two separate administration companies dealing with this (can't remember the names, but it's on the other threads).
You probably won't get your £25 back. If you apply, you'll probably be looking at 5p in the £1 so you're looking at £1.25 refund.

Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.

A spokesman for the administrators was on Radio % Live yesterday afternoon, they had dismissed around 1200 staff.
The word on gift cards was that when the business was sold the new owners would be responsible for honouring them.

Yes the group have been in trouble for a good few weeks. Not sure how its theft but there you go. When firms go into administraion gift cards aren't usually accepted. Maybe contact the administrators and ask them but you will be further down the list of those wanting they're money back.

Some Game stores are trying to tempt people with 75% Extra on all trade ins.

Game PLC know full well they probably wont be able to honour any credit given yet they are quite happy to take you games and give you credit.

In Southampton East Street shop four teenagers were given £40 in credit on their trade in card. My mate who still has some credit to spend was told they are not allowing credit to be spent while the Administration is finalised.

It is not illegal for Game to do this but it is very underhand tactics. If the credit can't/won't be honoured and is written off Game still have your games which will then be used along with current stock to cover debts.

Even if Game Group PLC are bought the buying company has no obligation to honour the store credit given. So for Game to carry on offering store credit during its finalisation of Administration is very underhand and sneaky, especially to people who do not understand what it means for a company to be in Administration.

If you see any Game offering any higher % for trade ins let us know!!

So it has been in the news a lot recently, there has been threads here about it and still people did not latch onto this and go in to spend their credit?

A whole collection of GAME and GAMESTATION stores have shut down - there are a few still trading but not many - Wolverhampton's have shut up, cleaned out and painted out their windows almost overnight.

How you didn't know GAME were in trouble after all the coverage (and forum threads!), I don't know.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...
