Right. Yesterday I spent 5 hours of my life trying to reduce the cost of my 'Buildings and Contents' insurance.
I am livid!!!!!!!!
Tried them all from Go compare to Moneysupermarket.
Also went on Quidco and got a cashback code.
Cheapest quote was Swinton @ 9.99p/m. I then get a phone call from Swinton telling me that they can reduce the price to 8.79p/m.
"Excellent, can I have the quote reference number please"?
I'll do a bit more research then phone tomorrow.
Quidco are offering a code for £30 cashback with Swinton.
Today I have gone on to the Swinton website and entered the code. (family fortunes noise). I then phone them and they tell me that the quote reference was phone only, not web!!!! Excuse me.
They then give me a new quote with an extra tenner because of administration. They will not honour the existing quote.
Right so I go back to Moneysupermarket and get a new quote but it will not allow me to enter the cashback code.
So in conclusion over 5 hours work and I have saved just 7 pounds.
Less than minimum wage.
Brilliant..........................................not!!!! Thanks Martin for all the advice!:T:T:T:T

I understand your frustration, but the advice is just that - advice.
It's all a learning experience, rather than a recipe for success, and it does take some shopping around and a bit of experience to get the best deal.
Example:
Compare prices using a comparison website. Swinton is cheapest.
Clear cookies, then go to topcashback and click through to Swinton for £30.30 affiliate cashback.
Use the campaign code shown on the Swinton home page when running a new quote for an additional £30 cashback.
Total cashback - £60.300 -
It took you five hours and you saved £7. But think of how much fun you had! Honestly, some people just expect too much!"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

I think it is important when buying insurance is to remember that the 'best price' does not necessarily provide the 'best cover'.
I recently purchased building/contents cover and I paid around 50quid more that the best price I was quoted. The cover seemed similar until you looked at the details.
You also need to do some research on how an insurer deals with claims.
Like most products and services - you get what you pay for.0
