Restoration of the age related allowance

I won't be signing.
One larger personal allowance for all. It is normal and expected in most western countries.
I also expect winter fuel allowance to be restricted to those who need it only.0 -
Ah, means test the winter fuel allowance ,in other word if you've been ****less, you still get it, if you've been thrifty, you dont, great idea.
What do you mean being thrifty well a lot of woman back them had to be thrifty to get by and now that they reached retirement age the government kick them in the teeth with the state pensions. Some as little as £30.00 a week.
A lot of pensions are still working which would make their working years past 50 years so I think they have paid their way in society for the small amount of pension they get in return.
Most pensioners today did not an easy life as non-pensions as most non-pensioners got a good education and got good jobs and good company pension scheme, which was not available for most for pensioners today.
You obviously agreed with boy George budget giving the top riches people in the country reduction in tax of 5% but you do not seem to mind him taking away from the vulnerable.
Also you do not seem mind millions paid in children allowances to workers from the EU and are paid children allowance for their children that do not even live with them in this country.0 -
I think roddy probably means f e c k less, which the swear machine would throw a fit at....................
[EDIT] So now I know0 -
My defintion is those on lower incomes incl pension credit and other means tested benefits.
And certainly Not needed by HRTaxpayers.
It has been said that HRT taxpayers should not get allowances, but apparently it is too difficult to tell who is on the higher rate of tax, which I do not think is correct as DWP would know this by the amount of tax people pay, but there again very rich people have accountants that knows the loopholes in the system to enable them to avoid tax.
All benefits should be based on income this should income council tax as well. If people are earning over 50 or 60K they should be mean tested for any kind of benefits. If people become disabled during their lift time them it can work out very expensive for them ie getting adaptation done in the home and employing people to get some physical work done in the home.
On the bbc this morning it revealed that everyone living in Sweden apparently what people pay in tax is open to everyone to see there is no restrictions whatsoever, that is how it should be here also.0 -
It has nothing to do with the Anglo Saxon derived word which might get this post removed if I used it. Now, let's see what the swear word machine makes of this.
[EDIT] So now I know
The filters probably have it included because it can often be used to get around such filters when one really means the other word beginning in "f" and ending in "k" - as so frequently used in Father Ted, for example.0 -

No, DWP do not usually know. They have to ask, or be told by, HMRC. According to a friend of mine in DWP that's one of the most common reasons for benefit overpayments and subsequent demands for repayment. I think there have been proposals to combine the two systems (or, even, departments) but they have thus far proven too complex or too costly to implement, or both.
My friend would be very happy if DWP and HMRC were to be combined, both to simplify dealing with benefits claims/payments but also because it would probably mean a pay rise for him - people of the same grade and similar responsibilities are apparently paid more in HMRC than in DWP.0 -

There are some downsides to Sweden's system incl if you marry you MUST display your addess publicly which has lead to murders, and people not getting married when they wanted to, and therefore inheritance issues.
Consider the case of the late Stieg Larsson whose novels were published posthumously and his estate worth many millions. instead of going to his partner of 30 years (they didn't marry as they were left wing journelists who had received many death threats so wanted to keep their address off record) who helped write his books, the 100's of millions went to his father and brother whom he was estranged from hadn't spoken to in over 25 years. His father hadn't even raised him.
He had made a will but died the day before he had an appt to sign it. They even tried to have her evicted from their jointly owned apt in Stockholm.0 -
Consider we are lowest paid state pensions in EU, (until some proves me otherwise) some EU countries pays all of what you mentions above but is far more generous payments to pensioners as well as a much better state pensions.
That totally misses the wider issue. The welfare system in Western Europe is totally unaffordable. The days of plentiful were a myth. Based on excessive amounts of credit spend creating an unsustainable level of growth. Visit Eire and you'll see that they've taken a much tougher stance on debt reduction than the UK.0
