    Problem now sorted, the latest automatic upgrade was causing the problem. Did a system restore and everything back to normal.

    I can't get anywhere near hotmail today - I use Chrome. Just hang on and see what happens?

    check to see if you have had an automatic Windows Update recently, this was the cause of my problem. I system restored to before that update and now everything is back to normal.
