LL raising rent after 2 months - no contract

I'd ask him to use the deposit for the last month's rent and spend that month finding somewhere better

Yep, move. I would tell him what you're doing, and will other readers please advise, but I would stop paying rent up to the amount of the deposit, so you do not him anything/he owes you nothing. I say this as I think you'll face a nightmare getting your deposit back. I would also tactfully point out your feeling that he has no permission to let. And get out asap.0

Definitely gonna do that. Depending on how things play out over the next couple of days, I'll either not pay on April 1st and move out at the end of that month or pay the basic rent for April and move out end of May. I'll also inform the appropriate council dept and his mortgage lender.0
