    Ok..how do you know?

When I spoke to job center plus today for help to go through the claim form, the advisor said that I may have to have an interview with a personal advisor.

To be honest, this worries me as I really can't face the prospect of it & am seriously considering not signing the form when they send it through the post.

im not sure what benefits you are on, but go to your local CAB office if your concerned.
dont not sign the form, if you are entitled to benefits just do it !

dont forget there are many benefits you can claim, and the CAB have professional advice. many of us here are speaking with experience only. and if i was you, i would want, facts.

    good luck and dont worry

Interesting that you posed the question on this thread and now you're the one 'helping' people!
  • I claim IB & DLA. I had a medical last year (I think) & passed it. So not going to be migrated over onto ESA for a while yet.

Just got worried & anxious about completing my claim for Income Support as I really can't face another interview/medical right now.

The last medical I was so stressed that I self harmed & could'nt stop vomiting. It's a very unethical way to deal with genuine ill people. I felt I was being mentally tortured.

hello i wonder if anyone can help me please
    .
with a particular question. In relation to Income Support.

Basically im on DLA and Incapacity Benefit, and have been for 12 years/. ( mental illness ) middle rate care , and lower rate mobility.

no one has ever claimed carers allowance for me.

I have only recently found out im entitled to Income Support (top up to my IB) as an addon.. as i was only getting 108.00 per week.
my award was for about 40 pounds.

My issue is i was missinformed twice last year, once at the job centre and once on the benefits helpline when i asked if i could claim for IS, both times was told no. Hence why i didnt claim, and had no idea i could claim this for 10 years.

when i was awarded IS i asked for the IS to be backdated for 9 months.

I received a letter back stating that the DM cannot backdate my claim because

'' you have not shown good cause for the delay in making your claim as defined in the social security act 1987''

should i give up, as to be honest i dont have the massive energy to keep asking for things from the dwp. im grateful for there help, and dont want anymore angry staff , like the woman at the job centre who said ' you are on enough money''

    am i being unrealistic?

i suppose 9 months is better than 10 years they have not paid me ,?

do you have any advice for me, how to approach them, or , shall i give up?

    thanks

    Jay

I could tell you similar stories about others in your position.

One didn't know about DLA - didn't make claim until 17 years after the event!
Not only that his wife could have claimed Carers Allowance as well!!

Another who failed to understand the ins and outs of Pension Credit. Failed due to ignorance to claim for 6 years Made claim in late 09 then the claim was summarilly closed on him because he didn't comply within a month to send info in 2011.

Another who didn't know about Attendance Allowance for years only to find that if he had claimed it his income (premiums) would have gone up by £140 a week + the Attendance Allowance.

Another, a married woman (69) assumed that she was not entitled to any state pension before her husband turned 65. She had received nothing from Newcastle when she turned 60.
It turned out that she was entitled, by virtue of her own contributions to the equivalent of just under 1/2 the full state pension.
But they would not pay her the 8 years that she could have claimed from 60 to when her husband turned 65 last year!!

Only the long time claimers know what you are entitled to.
And as for asking the DWP for the right advice, you can never trust them to give it.
  • I don't agree with the concept that long time claimers of benefits are any more wiser than people who have recently started having to claim.

I rekon part of the reason why people don't claim, is the DWP make it really difficult to a/ find out what an individual is entitled to, b/ make it very hard & put barriers in the way once you have put a claim in.

As I say, I'm really put off claiming IS even tho' I am entitled to it. I really can't be bothered with the stress.

hiya, you just asked if everyone has to have a medical, and some people i know have not had to have one...
and your right, they make it so hard, the DWP.
i was sorry to hear about you self harming because of all the stress about going for the medical. hopefully they will leave you alone now.

dont forget that you should tell your dr or shrink if you have one about this level of stress. then get them to put it in a letter, make the department aware of this. or just have it on file. just in case one day you need to go for a tribunal etc....

you deserve everything you can get thats allowed and i hope your ok now.

    ps. devil.

if in doubt phone CAB ( citizens adivce) remember this is a forum, and unless someone here has or works at the DWP, its a lot of opinions, and there are some angry people here with weird off the wall remarks , that are off topic and certainly not helpful to disabled people. a lot of right wing views.

and as for me, dont take my advice, just make sure you get professional and proper guidence. im only trying to help, and if i say anything its just either my own experience or experience of friends. and remember that the law does change from time to time also.

DLA has nothing whatsoever to do with IB or ESA.

You can have a medical for DLA one week and a medical for ESA a few weeks later.
If you are claiming IB, you will migrate very soon.
  • It's not a medical, it's a personal advisor that carries out a work based interview (if applicable) after 6 weeks of claiming Income Support.

I am well aware that I could get called for another medical at anytime & I know everyone claiming IB will get transferred onto ESA by 2014 & will have to attend a medical to ascertain what group they will be placed in.

However, the stress of medicals & interviews is so bad it makes me very very ill. So, if I go ahead and sign the forms for Income Support, I would be under constant alert waiting for the DWP to haul me in. I just can't bear that right now.

jaycoo.. encouragement is always welcome, especially on this part of the forum :)
