Need help with Barclaycard issue!

Hi, I recently payed off my barclaycard using santander online banking. Just over a week later I recieved my next months report, and it said that I owed £270. There was no way I'd spent this much on my card, so i checked my online banking and 6 days later, it said that the payment for the month before had gone back into my account, meaning that it wasn't payed off.
Does anyone have any idea if I can get this charge taken off If i prove that santander didn't put my payment through? Ive payed the minimum fee now using my online banking again, but I cant get down to santander until friday afternoon, so im worried in case this payment doesnt go through either and I end up getting charged even more.
Can anyone direct me on how to go about this please? Thanks.

Did you have enough money in your account when you made the payment? If Santander have declined the payment, than the Barclaycard fee should stand. You could try calling and asking them to remove it as a gesture of good will. But as it stands, you failed to get payment to the account and you are ultimately liable.

Ok couple of points to check.

Was it the first time you did this on the online system. If it was the first time you may have entered one number wrong, Satander would have paid it known the wiser and Barclaycard returned it with no card here by that number.

As Tomsco has said did you have enough money.

All transactions online keep a log. So follow up what happened and why. There is a electronic/ paper trail you just have to search very hard to find it!

Cheers for the replies guys, its helped me realise im a complete idiot and put the payment reference as my santander card, not my barclaycard. God knows what was going through my mind at the time, a very costly mistake! Cheers.
